FAQ

The Peoria Prowlers were founded in 2016 and have been the only all gender roller derby league in Peoria, IL ever since!

Though roller derby these days is still a real, full-contact sport with real hits and real falls, there are rules the skaters must obey while on the track. Check out the “Roller Derby 101” section on our “Schedule” page!

The Prowlers love and appreciate every single one of our Sponsors as they love and support us! If interested in sponsoring, you can navigate to the “Sponsors” page to our easily accessible Sponsorship Packet and Application form! Other ways to support the league are to make a donation to the league, follow us on social media, attend our games and tell your friends! 🙂

You can reach us via email at prowlersderby@gmail.com, on the “Contact Us” page or reach out through any of our social media platforms. Let us know your interest and a Prowler will direct you to the right league committee head!

The Prowlers hold Recruitment nights and start new skaters about every 3 months. Keep an eye on our socials or event Calendar for the next one! We are currently accepting anyone over 18yr, all genders, who want to join! No tryout required. 🙂

Roller derby is played on quad skates. But if you are interested in becoming a referee, they are allowed to wear in-lines!

There are many different opportunities to be involved with the Prowlers without wanting to skate or make any big hits! There are non-skating officials and volunteers who help out with games, practices and events and we can ALWAYS use more help! Reach out through our “Contact Us” page and let us know your interest!

The Prowlers start new skaters off in a “Newbie Class” where new skaters are taught the basics of roller skating and roller derby. About every 45 days new skaters are assessed in the skills they have learned and have the opportunity to move up a skill level to begin learning more complex skills. Skaters have the opportunity to be scrimmage ready around 90days and will start being considered for roster eligibility based on safety and skill level. In the new skater program you are able to move at your own pace. The more work you put in, the sooner you will be able to be considered for the Game Day Roster!

New skaters practice once a week in the evenings and pay a $5 drop in fee for every practice they attend. Once they hit day 90 they become an official league member and are required to pay $20/mo. Once new skaters skill up to 2 practices a week, dues become $40/mo. All skating members are required to purchase WFTDA insurance at day 90 which is about $75/yr. Skaters also have required gear for practice/gameplay: Helmet, mouth guard, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads and quad roller skates.(In-lines optional for referees) *All required gear will be provided for the first 90days as it is available. After 90days all skaters are responsible for obtaining their own gear and skates, which can be pricey but all depends on what you choose. The Prowlers have about 3-4 home games a year and about 2-3 away games a year, scheduled on Saturdays. League members are also required to attend a number of league events throughout the year, mostly scheduled on weekends.
